Where is the Makerspace located?
320 W 29th St, Suite 220, Baltimore, MD 21211, on the second floor of the Pava Center building in room 220.
Can I use the Makerspace?
The Makerspace is open to all Johns Hopkins University students, faculty, and staff. Priority is given to personal projects that are not related to coursework or grant-funded research projects and that have not yet reached the point of commercialization.
What if I need to complete a project for coursework/research?
WSE Manufacturing has a Professional Machine Shop, Self – Service Machine Shop, and Advanced Manufacturing Lab that you can use.
How much does it cost?
All tools are free, though we ask that you bring your own materials/consumables, except for 3D printer filament and vinyl for the vinyl cutter.
When is the Makerspace open?

What equipment is available?
There are a variety of available tools, including 3D printers, laser cutters, an electrical station, hand tools, a wood shop, and more. See the Resources page for more details.
How can I book tool training/usage?
Use our bookings page to reserve a timeslot for training or equipment use.
If I have had training on similar equipment, do I still need to complete training in the Makerspace?
You will need to complete Makerspace specific training in order to use Makerspace equipment and resources.
Is there a dress code or required protective equipment?
In the general shop area, we will not allow open-toed footwear or any food and drinks. The metal working room, woodworking room, and paint booth will all have additional restrictions and guidelines that will be covered during their respective training.
Can I bring friends/family into the Makerspace?
Only if they are an affiliate of Johns Hopkins University (They must have a J-Card).
Where can I buy materials?
Can I have supplies shipped directly to the Makerspace?
Shipping materials to the Makerspace is allowed on a case-by-case basis. Please get in touch with the Makerspace Manager to inquire further.
Can I store my projects/materials in the Makerspace?
We do have some storage available for projects, but it is limited. Contact us to discuss in more detail. Any materials you bring with you should be taken back.
I have an idea for a project but don’t know how to make it. Can I get help from the Makerspace staff?
Yes, when we are not running equipment and resource training, we will be available to help you make your idea a reality. Contact the Makerspace Manager to schedule a meeting to discuss your project.
I have finished prototyping in the Makerspace, and now I’m ready to reach out to local manufacturers. Who should I contact?
